SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, MARCH 13, 1991 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Jordan, <br /> Vice Chairperson Anthony, <br /> Commissioners Berglund, Lloyd, <br /> Metzdorf and Truscelli <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioner Sharp <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Park & Recreation <br /> Superintendent Hartman, Recreation <br /> Supervisor Kucala, Center <br /> Coordinator Centeno, Library <br /> Supervisor Hamilton and Secretary <br /> Monroe <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: None <br /> Chairperson Jordan called the regular meeting of the Senior Affairs <br /> Commission to order at 9:10 a.m. at the 49er Senior Center Annex, <br /> 711 Nevada Street, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> The minutes were approved as mailed. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> There was no correspondence. <br /> ITEM 1 - Transportation <br /> Supervisor Kucala advised the Commission that the Gift Shop wanted to <br /> donate some money for transportation but found that taxi cabs were too <br /> expensive. On the average, it costs $10.00 per round trip. The van that <br /> is presently used for transportation is a little too high for handicapped <br /> persons to get into. As soon as the Senior Advisory Council obtains their <br /> 501 C-3 status, they are going to try to get a donation for a station <br /> wagon, which would be an easier vehicle for handicapped persons to get in <br /> and out of. A discussion was held regarding the issue of insurance and the <br /> difficulties of obtaining coverage. Chairperson Jordan said there is a <br /> paratransit insurance group for non-profits located in Oakland. <br /> Non-profits could qualify for insurance at a reduced rate. Commissioner <br /> Anthony said that a Redwood City resident has applied to be on the PCC when <br /> a vacancy arises, although the PCC currently has a full board of <br /> representatives. <br /> ITEM 2 - Senior Affairs Commission Workplan for 1991 <br /> Commissioner Anthony reviewed the Commissioner's brainstorm list of items <br /> from last month that are most important to seniors. The list was not in <br /> order of priority but just a numbered list of those items. He would like <br />
