SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, MAY 8, 1991 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Jordan, <br /> Vice Chairperson Anthony, <br /> Commissioners Berglund, Lloyd, <br /> Metzdorf, Sharp and Truscelli <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Park & Recreation <br /> Superintendent Hartman, Recreation <br /> Supervisor Kucala, Library <br /> Supervisor Hamilton and Secretary <br /> Monroe <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Executive Director Maria <br /> Bransford, Loyce Haran of the <br /> San Mateo County Volunteer Center <br /> Chairperson Jordan called the regular meeting of the Senior Affairs <br /> Commission to order at 9:00 a.m. at the Senior Center Annex, 711 Nevada <br /> Street, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> Commissioner Anthony asked that a correction by made to the April minutes <br /> under Item 1. The word "billion" should read "million". The minutes were <br /> approved as corrected. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> -A letter was received from Dr. Ron Crates thanking the Commissioners for <br /> letting him speak at their April meeting. He also enclosed several of his <br /> business cards for the Commissioners' use. Superintendent Hartman said <br /> that Ruth Woolf of the Redwood City School District has a meeting with <br /> Chris Oliver of the Senior Center to discuss meeting with groups from the <br /> Center. <br /> -An invitation was received to attend a School District Open Forum on <br /> Thursday, May 16 at 7:00pm at the Canada College auditorium. The forum <br /> will feature a board of local civic leaders, educators and politicians. <br /> ITEM 1 - Loyce Haran - Director of Volunteer Center of San Mateo County <br /> Ms. Haran spoke to the Commission on the subject of liability for persons <br /> holding an advisory position on boards or commissions. She stated that <br /> commissioners and advisory boards cannot be held liable because they are <br /> not an incorporated body, but that board of director members of an <br /> incorporated company can be held liable. Insurance covering board of <br /> director members is very expensive and is not readily available. She <br /> explained that if you hold an advisory board position, you should take your <br /> position very seriously and make sure you follow these guidelines: <br />
