SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12, 1991 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Vice Chairperson Anthony, <br /> Commissioners Berglund, Sharp, <br /> and Truscelli <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Chairperson Jordan, <br /> Commissioners Lloyd and Metzdorf <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Park & Recreation <br /> Superintendent Hartman, Recreation <br /> Supervisor Kucala, Center <br /> Coordinator Centeno, Library <br /> Supervisor Hamilton and Secretary <br /> Monroe <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Executive Director Maria <br /> Bransford, Judy Gaither of the <br /> Human Investment Project Inc. <br /> Vice Chairperson Anthony called the regular meeting of the Senior Affairs <br /> Commission to order at 9:00 a.m. at the Fair Oaks Senior Center, <br /> 2600 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> Commissioner Anthony asked that a correction be made to the May minutes <br /> under Item 3 and Roundtable. Under Roundtable, Commissioners Anthony and <br /> Metzdorf visited the State Legislature on May 20. Under Item 3, the <br /> following correction was made to the paragraph: "Commissioner Anthony said <br /> that when he was interviewed by the City Council during his reappointment <br /> to the Commission, he mentioned that he was concerned about the effects <br /> of raises in taxes and cost of services to those seniors on fixed incomes. <br /> During a discussion at a later date, Councilman Bury suggested that perhaps <br /> a committee of commissioners could meet with a couple of the Council <br /> members to discuss our concerns." <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> -No correspondence was received. <br /> ITEM 1 - Human Investment Project - Judy Gaither <br /> Judy Gaither of the Human Investment Project (HIP) explained that HIP is a <br /> non-profit organization located in San Mateo County which consists of <br /> several types of programs. One of their programs is "Shared Homes" which <br /> matches people who need to share housing for various reasons. They can <br /> match seniors who need some level of service but are still independent and <br /> can share rent costs. Last year Shared Homes matched 700 people for <br /> housing and has a success rate of 45% in matching people. They also have a <br /> "Group Share Program" consisting of seven houses in San Mateo County that <br /> are leased by HIP and sublet to groups of individuals. HIP also offers a <br />
