SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 1991 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Jordan, <br /> Commissioners Anthony, Berglund, <br /> Lloyd, Metzdorf, Sharp and <br /> Truscelli <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Park & Recreation <br /> Superintendent Hartman, Assistant <br /> Recreation Supervisor Oliver, <br /> Library Supervisor Hamilton and <br /> Secretary Monroe <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Civic Cultural Commissioner <br /> Jeffrey Filippi and Executive <br /> Director Maria Bransford <br /> Vice Chairperson Anthony called the regular meeting of the Senior Affairs <br /> Commission to order at 9:00 a.m. at the Senior Center Annex, 711 Nevada <br /> Street, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> The minutes of the July meeting will be approved at the next meeting due <br /> to their late arrival to the Commissioners. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> Superintendent Hartman delivered a CHAS draft to the Commissioners which <br /> was prepared by the Housing Department. <br /> ITEM 1-Proposal for Downtown Sign-Jeffrey Filippi <br /> Dr. Jeffrey Filippi made a presentation to the Commission regarding his <br /> proposed "Sign of the Times" project. He would like to replicate the <br /> "Climate Best By Government Test" sign which was last located at El Camino <br /> Real and Claremont Street before being torn down in 1970. Dr. Filippi <br /> reviewed the history of the sign and the research he has completed on the <br /> sign. Before replicating the sign, he wants to obtain broad-based support <br /> throughout the community for the project. Dr. Filippi indicated that he <br /> has received support of this project from various organizations such as <br /> Pete's Harbor, Hispanos Unidos, Redwood City Historic Resources Advisory <br /> Committee, Soroptimists, and the Downtown Association, who is sponsoring <br /> this project. Forty letters have also been sent out to various civic <br /> groups requesting their endorsement of the project. Dr. Filippi said he <br /> has met with the Planning Department regarding the sign and will continue <br /> to work with them. He said that the sign would be installed in the 2600 <br /> block of Broadway. <br /> M/S Anthony/Metzdorf: That the Senior Affairs Commission support the <br /> concept of a downtown historical sign to be located <br /> on Broadway preferably in the 2600 block. <br /> Motion passed. <br />
