SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 1991 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Jordan, <br /> Commissioners Anthony, Berglund, <br /> Lloyd, Metzdorf, Sharp, and <br /> Truscelli <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Park & Recreation <br /> Superintendent Sally Hartman, <br /> Center Coordinator Corinne Centeno, <br /> Library Supervisor Val Hamilton <br /> and Secretary Denise Monroe <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Executive Director Maria <br /> Bransford <br /> Chairperson Jordan called the regular meeting of the Senior Affairs <br /> Commission to order at 9:10 a.m. at the Senior Center Annex, 711 Nevada <br /> Street, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> A correction to the October minutes was made on page 2 under <br /> "Suggested Agenda". Agenda items for November should be included in <br /> listing for December. Library Supervisor Hamilton said the minutes noted <br /> she was in attendance at the October meeting which was incorrect. The <br /> minutes were approved as corrected. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> There was no correspondence. <br /> ITEM 1 - Basic Need of Seniors - Corinne Centeno <br /> Center Coordinator Corinne Centeno distributed an Emergency Services <br /> Summary document to each Commissioner which listed services available to <br /> seniors and other members of the population such as food, shelter, and <br /> clothing, but did not list all senior center sites in the County. <br /> Coordinator Centeno noted that emergency food can be obtained from 6 local <br /> facilities which provide enough food for 2-3 days. She said that the only <br /> daytime hot meals being served in the County, with the exception of the <br /> senior centers, are served at St. Anthony's Dining Room in Menlo Park and <br /> the only evening meals being served are through two sites of the Samaritan <br /> House. Director Bransford mentioned that at a cost of $7.00 per year, the <br /> Fair Oaks Senior Center offers a Brown Bag Program to qualified seniors who <br /> receive one bag of groceries each Friday. Currently, 135 seniors are <br /> registered for this program. Coordinator Centeno said that the SHARE <br /> Program offers food at a cost of $13.00 per month in exchange for two hours <br /> of community service and is open to everyone. She explained that emergency <br /> food services are readily available but unfortunately there are limited <br /> shelter providers. <br />
