SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY, JANUARY 10, 2002 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Harrison, Commissioners <br /> Borgens, Carpe, Moran, and L. Walsh <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioners Grove and M. Walsh <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Christopher Bohl, Susan Houston, Jim Leahy, Ethel <br /> Robinson, Danny Sanchez and Vincent Truscelli <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Manager Linda Griffith, Recreation Supervisor Yelena <br /> Devyatova, Volunteer Specialist Cindy Jimenez and <br /> Administrative Clerk Kathy Bede <br /> The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was called to order by <br /> Chairperson Jean Harrison at 1:05pm in the Goldstar Room of the Veterans <br /> Memorial Senior Center, 1455 Madison Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> M/S L. Walsh/Borgens: To approve the November minutes as <br /> mailed. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> No correspondence this month. <br /> ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br /> Commissioner L. Walsh introduced Christopher Bohl of the Redwood City <br /> Elementary School Task Force to the Commission. Mr. Bohl spoke in favor <br /> the proposed $22 million school bond issue on the March 5, 2002 ballot and <br /> the building of classrooms, libraries and multi-use rooms with the $44 million <br /> provided by the passage of a previous school bond 4 1/2 years ago. <br /> Resurfacing of parking areas and hard top playgrounds, upgrading of school <br /> playing fields, repair of older school buildings roofs, lights, the meeting of <br /> ADA requirements and new maintenance equipment are the objectives of the <br /> new bond issue. Mr. Bohl suggested that the Commission schedule a future <br /> meeting at one of the schools new libraries to see the facility improvements. <br /> ITEM 1 - Commission Business <br /> -Purpose of Commission <br /> Manager Griffith distributed copies of a new page to appear in the next <br /> Citywide Activities Guide, which includes the Senior Affairs Commission <br /> purpose, importance and meeting schedule at both the Veterans Memorial <br />
