SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 1992 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Anthony, <br /> Commissioners Berglund, Lloyd, <br /> Metzdorf, Sharp, and Truscelli <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioner Jordan <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Park & Recreation <br /> Superintendent Sally Hartman, <br /> Library Supervisor Val Hamilton, <br /> and Housing Coordinator Debbie <br /> Jones-Thomas <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Executive Director Maria <br /> Bransford and Steve Penna of <br /> Redwood City Theatrical and <br /> Entertainment Troupe <br /> Chairperson Anthony called the regular meeting of the Senior Affairs <br /> Commission to order at 9:00 a.m. at the Fair Oaks Senior Center, <br /> 2600 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> The minutes of the January meeting were approved as mailed. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> There was no correspondence. <br /> Superintendent Hartman presented the news release acknowledging <br /> Commissioner Metzdorf and her outstanding community volunteerism. <br /> ITEM 1 - Section 504 Update - Debbie Jones-Thomas <br /> Housing Coordinator Debbie Jones-Thomas explained that the 504 Committee <br /> teamed up in pairs of two, consisting of a staff member and a committee <br /> person. Each pair went to buildings in the City, evaluated the facilities, <br /> and reported back to the architect. She explained that there was a person <br /> in a wheelchair on each visit to assist in the evaluation process. The <br /> architect then visited each of the facilities to review problems that were <br /> noted and made recommendations on ways to correct the problems. These <br /> solutions are to be reviewed by the 504 Committee. A draft recommendation <br /> report was sent to the Senior Affairs Commission and will be updated <br /> monthly. <br /> A hearing amplification system has been purchased to assist the hearing <br /> impaired. The system will be available to be used by organizations for <br /> meetings and carries a distance of 20-30 feet. Training will be conducted <br /> for Affirmative Action Coordinators so they can go back and train staff <br /> people in their departments on the new system so they can implement the use <br /> of it in meetings at their facilities. <br />
