Superintendent Hartman asked about the method which would be used to
tabulate the surveys. It was suggested that perhaps the computer class at
the Veterans Senior Center might take this on as a special project and be
willing to tabulate the results using their computers. It was also
suggested having time set aside at various club meetings where one of the
survey committee members would be there to answer questions as people were
filling out the surveys.
Chairperson Anthony asked the Commissioners for their comments/suggestions
regarding the survey and requested Commissioner Berglund to call a meeting
of the subcommittee to condense many of the survey questions.
ITEM 3 - Transportation
Chairperson Anthony reported TRIPS continues to speak at the monthly
SamTrans paratransit meetings. He noted that return trips from doctor
visits are a problem for people using Redi Wheels. Because of delays at
doctor appointments, many people are not able to meet their scheduled pick
up time of the Redi Wheels vehicle. Chairperson Anthony said the Redi
Wheels logo will be given out to those patients who ride Redi Wheels and
these stickers will be placed on the patient's file to remind the doctor
that this person needs to leave the office by a certain time to catch the
bus. A sticker will also be provided to the patient to carry in their
purse or wallet.
Chairperson Anthony said TRIPS will be monitoring the pilot taxi program
and depending on its success, will make recommendations to put the program
in place in other cities.
The Commissioners discussed the issue of transportation liability and the
hesitancy of many people to transport seniors to and from the senior
centers due to this problem. Commissioner Lloyd noted many insurance
policies available have too many exclusionary clauses and RSVP provides
this kind of coverage but the restrictions are very tight.
ROUNDTABLE
There were no items for roundtable discussion.
The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was adjourned at
10:25am to be reconvened at 9:00am on Wednesday, August 12, 1992 at the
Fair Oaks Senior Center, 2600 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, California.
