He said the Housing and Human Concerns
Committee reported that they want to take a pro-active stance on making
housing available to people below the median income level and would like to
make several recommendations to the City Council regarding the City's CHAS
strategy during a public hearing at the November 15 City Council meeting.
One of the recommendations is the legalization of existing non-confirming
units on the same piece of property and letting the owner move into the
smaller unit and rent out the bigger unit. Current regulations state that
the owner must live in the bigger unit and rent out the smaller unit.
Chairperson Anthony said he felt this is one step in providing housing to
seniors and lower income people. He asked the Commission for their
approval to appear as the representative for the Senior Affairs Commission
and to make a 30 second statement at the Planning Commission meeting to
approve in principle the recommendations suggested by the Housing and Human
Concerns Committee. Commissioner Jordan expressed his concern that the
ordinance be written to benefit lower income people and would not encourage
off street parking. Chairperson Anthony confirmed this approval would be
in principle only and there would still be many details to be worked
through before it would be finalized.
M/S Jordan/Lloyd: To give Chairperson Anthony the authority to represent
the Senior Affairs Commission at the City Council
meeting on November 15.
Motion passed.
