In the first sentence, Commissioner
Lloyd's name should be changed to Commissioner Jordan. In the last
sentence, Commissioner Jordan's name should be changed to Commissioner
Lloyd. The April minutes were approved as corrected.
The following items were taken out of order:
ITEM 1-PEER COUNSELING UPDATE
Supervisor Mary Kucala introduced Delia Moonrider who presented
information on the San Mateo County Peer Counseling Program. She
explained the program has been run by the County for the past seven years
and until July 1, 1993, there were 1.5 paid social workers to run the program.
Due to cuts in the County's mental health programs, the peer counseling
program was eliminated. Ms. Moonrider explained that at that time, there
were 50 skilled volunteer senior peer counselors County-wide. These
volunteers approached the Board of Supervisors and asked for their
assistance in reinstating this valuable senior program. The Director of Health
Services was asked to re-examine the budget cuts and find a way to continue
the program and a strategy was developed to include a partnership between
the County and the private sector.
