SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF APRIL 13,1994 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Anthony, Commissioners <br /> Berglund, Jordan, Lloyd, Metzdorf, Sharp <br /> and Truscelli <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: TEWCI Chairperson Roger Willey <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Park and Recreation Superintendent Sally Hartman, <br /> Recreation Supervisor Mary Kucala, Therapeutic <br /> Coordinator Erlinda Tulioc, Library Supervisor Val <br /> Hamilton and Secretary Denise Monroe <br /> The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was called to <br /> order at 9:10am by Chairperson Anthony at the Fair Oaks Senior Center, <br /> 2600 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> Chairperson Anthony requested that a correction be made to the March <br /> minutes under Item 1-Report on Water and Sewer Rates. He asked that the <br /> minutes reflect his comment that although citizens can reduce their <br /> consumption of some types of utilities, they have little control in reducing <br /> their sewer consumption and he recommended that the City Council <br /> consider providing a reduced sewer rate for low income seniors. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> There was no correspondence. <br /> ITEM 1 -PEER COUNSELING DISCUSSION-MARY KUCALA <br /> Supervisor Kucala said that the four (4) peer counselors in Redwood City are <br /> anxious to start another peer counseling program at the Veterans Memorial <br /> Senior Center. She explained that the previous program was handled by <br /> Delia Moonrider who now works at Kaiser Hospital. The previous program <br /> consisted of 15-20 peer counselors who met with a licensed social worker once <br /> a week to discuss their cases. When San Mateo County took over the <br /> program, the service level of the program deteriorated and eventually the <br /> program was eliminated. A proposal for a new peer counseling program was <br /> submitted several years ago,but it was denied because a 501 C-3 status was <br /> required. Supervisor Kucala told the Commissioners she felt it was a good <br />
