SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF AUGUST 10, 1994 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Anthony, Commissioners <br /> Capone, Lloyd, Metzdorf and Newell <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioners Jordan and Sharp <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Executive Director Maria Bransford <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Park and Recreation Superintendent Sally Hartman, <br /> Interim Recreation Supervisor Marianne Mannia <br /> The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was called to <br /> order at 9:00am by Vice Chairperson Lloyd at the Fair Oaks Senior Center, <br /> 2600 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> The minutes of the July meeting were approved as mailed. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> There was no correspondence. <br /> ITEM 1-DISCUSSION OF MEETING TIME <br /> The Commissioners discussed changing their meeting time and decided to <br /> leave it at 9:00am. <br /> ITEM 2-PEER COUNSELING UPDATE <br /> Supervisor Mannia, Chairperson Anthony, Commissioner Lloyd and past <br /> president of Concerned Seniors Bill Addiego met on August 4 to discuss the <br /> proposed peer counseling program. Supervisor Mannia contacted Delia <br /> Moonrider who stated that the County can no longer afford to pay for the <br /> program but can provide program coordination and stated that partnerships <br /> have been formed with other entities. Training will be provided at Kaiser, <br /> Seton and San Mateo County General Hospitals for interested parties for a <br /> 12-week period. The next training will begin September 12 at Kaiser. <br /> Supervision of the peer counselors is provided by groups who provide the <br /> funding. Trained volunteers work with the peer counselors to conduct <br /> interviews and do link-ups. A trained, licensed therapist meets weekly with <br /> the peer counselors to provide training and consultation. <br />
