SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION MINUTES OF AUGUST 10, 1994 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Anthony, Commissioners Capone, Lloyd, Metzdorf and Newell COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioners Jordan and Sharp GUESTS PRESENT: Executive Director Maria Bransford STAFF PRESENT: Park and Recreation Superintendent Sally Hartman, Interim Recreation Supervisor Marianne Mannia The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was called to order at 9:00am by Vice Chairperson Lloyd at the Fair Oaks Senior Center, 2600 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, California. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the July meeting were approved as mailed. CORRESPONDENCE There was no correspondence. ITEM 1-DISCUSSION OF MEETING TIME The Commissioners discussed changing their meeting time and decided to leave it at 9:00am. ITEM 2-PEER COUNSELING UPDATE Supervisor Mannia, Chairperson Anthony, Commissioner Lloyd and past president of Concerned Seniors Bill Addiego met on August 4 to discuss the proposed peer counseling program. Supervisor Mannia contacted Delia Moonrider who stated that the County can no longer afford to pay for the program but can provide program coordination and stated that partnerships have been formed with other entities. Training will be provided at Kaiser, Seton and San Mateo County General Hospitals for interested parties for a 12-week period. The next training will begin September 12 at Kaiser. Supervision of the peer counselors is provided by groups who provide the funding. Trained volunteers work with the peer counselors to conduct interviews and do link-ups. A trained, licensed therapist meets weekly with the peer counselors to provide training and consultation.
