SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY,MARCH 14,1996 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Lloyd, Commissioners <br /> Capone, Mooney, Newell, and Walsh <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioners Moran and Penna <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Gino Gasparini, Debi Sargent <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Sally Hartman, Supervisor Linda Griffith <br /> and Secretary Denise Monroe <br /> The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was called to <br /> order at 3:00pm by Chairperson Lloyd at the Senior Center Annex, <br /> 711 Nevada Street, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> The minutes of the February meeting were approved as mailed. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> Superintendent Hartman reviewed a letter from Assistant Finance Director <br /> Judy Somers regarding a proposed TCI rate increase. She will provide more <br /> information to the Commission as it becomes available. <br /> -Commissioners Walsh commented on the Commission's letter sent to the <br /> Mayor and City Council regarding proposed Medi-Cal and Medicare cuts and <br /> asked if they should expect a response from City Council. He asked if the <br /> Commission has the ability to write to the President or Congress on senior <br /> issues as representatives of the senior population. Chairperson Lloyd will <br /> contact Mayor Hartnett regarding the letter and what is the Council's position <br /> on having the Senior Affairs Commission speak on the City's behalf on <br /> senior issues. <br /> ITEM 1-BFI RECYCLING <br /> Gino Gasparini stated the City Council recently approved the 8.5% increase in <br /> BFI rates. He mentioned during the Council meeting, Councilman Claire <br /> inquired about having a lifeline rate. Mr. Gasparini said BFI would not have <br /> a problem establishing a lifeline rate for seniors, but this would have to be a <br /> Council decision. <br />
