SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY,NOVEMBER 14,1996 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Lloyd, Commissioners <br /> Anthony, Harrison, Moran, Newell (arrived 3:30pm), <br /> and Walsh <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Chris Holmquist, Kathleen Gallagher, Gino Gasparini <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Corinne Centeno, Secretary Denise <br /> Monroe <br /> The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was called to order <br /> by Chairperson Lloyd at 3:00pm at the Senior Center Annex, 711 Nevada <br /> Street, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> The minutes of the October meeting were approved as mailed. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> There was no correspondence. <br /> ITEM 1-GREEN WASTE RECYCLING PROGRAM UPDATE <br /> City Billing and Collections Manager Chris Holmquist announced the City <br /> Council approved the new changes to the BFI waste pick-up programs and <br /> introduced Kathleen Gallagher, County Recycling and Integrated Waste <br /> Program Manager for BFI to explain the changes. Ms. Gallagher announced <br /> three new recycling programs are being added for Redwood City residents <br /> beginning January 1, 1997. The programs are the Yard Waste Recycling <br /> Program, Mixed Paper Container Recycling, and expansion of the number of <br /> plastics accepted for recycling. Ms. Gallagher explained these changes are <br /> being implemented to be in compliance with legislation SB198. <br /> Ms. Gallagher stated residents will be able to recycle all green yard waste such <br /> as grass clippings and other landscape waste in the Yard Waste Program. <br /> Residents may use their own trash containers for the recycling of green waste <br /> and BFI will provide recycling stickers, or residents may purchase a 96 gallon <br /> container directly from BFI at a cost of$60.00. For the mixed paper recycling, <br /> people will be able to recycle all types of paper, envelopes, and other paper <br /> products in a separate container which will reduce the items now going into <br />
