SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION MINUTES OF THURSDAY,NOVEMBER 14,1996 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Lloyd, Commissioners Anthony, Harrison, Moran, Newell (arrived 3:30pm), and Walsh COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None GUESTS PRESENT: Chris Holmquist, Kathleen Gallagher, Gino Gasparini STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Corinne Centeno, Secretary Denise Monroe The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was called to order by Chairperson Lloyd at 3:00pm at the Senior Center Annex, 711 Nevada Street, Redwood City, California. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the October meeting were approved as mailed. CORRESPONDENCE There was no correspondence. ITEM 1-GREEN WASTE RECYCLING PROGRAM UPDATE City Billing and Collections Manager Chris Holmquist announced the City Council approved the new changes to the BFI waste pick-up programs and introduced Kathleen Gallagher, County Recycling and Integrated Waste Program Manager for BFI to explain the changes. Ms. Gallagher announced three new recycling programs are being added for Redwood City residents beginning January 1, 1997. The programs are the Yard Waste Recycling Program, Mixed Paper Container Recycling, and expansion of the number of plastics accepted for recycling. Ms. Gallagher explained these changes are being implemented to be in compliance with legislation SB198. Ms. Gallagher stated residents will be able to recycle all green yard waste such as grass clippings and other landscape waste in the Yard Waste Program. Residents may use their own trash containers for the recycling of green waste and BFI will provide recycling stickers, or residents may purchase a 96 gallon container directly from BFI at a cost of$60.00. For the mixed paper recycling, people will be able to recycle all types of paper, envelopes, and other paper products in a separate container which will reduce the items now going into
