SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY,APRIL 10,1997 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Walsh, Commissioners <br /> Anthony, Harrison, Lloyd, Moran, Newell (arrived 3:40pm), <br /> and Walsh <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Executive Director Maria Bransford, Pete Hughes, <br /> Park & Recreation Commissioner Ginny Hughes <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Manager Linda Griffith, and Secretary Denise Monroe <br /> The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was called to order <br /> by Chairperson Leo Walsh at 3:10pm at the Fair Oaks Senior Center, 2600 <br /> Middlefield Road, Redwood City, California. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> Chairperson Walsh reviewed a letter he sent to Administrator Eric <br /> Rasmussen of Kaiser Hospital regarding scheduling a meeting with <br /> Commission representatives to discuss the future of Kaiser in Redwood City. <br /> ITEM 1-UPDATES <br /> a.) TEWCI <br /> Manager Griffith reported the City Council approved the second half of the <br /> grant funding to TEWCI in March. Executive Director Maria Bransford <br /> reported the grant contract has been signed. She informed the Commission <br /> that TEWCI has applied to the Housing and Human Concerns Committee <br /> (HHCC) for funding and the HHCC will make their funding decisions at their <br /> April 22 meeting. She spoke about the activities at the Fair Oaks Senior <br /> Center and noted they have a focus on citizenship classes, English classes, and <br /> literacy programs. TEWCI is performing more community outreach by <br /> visiting local residential care facilities to educate them on the services TEWCI <br /> provides and to bring in more seniors. They are also interested in making a <br /> presentation to Casa de Redwood. A new "Tea Dance" program has been <br /> added on Thursdays. Director Bransford mentioned TEWCI has increased its <br /> bus trips from 20 to 25 seniors per day. Seniors who use this service must be <br /> unable to drive and unable to use public transportation. <br />
