SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 1997 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Walsh, Commissioners <br /> Harrison, Moran, and Walsh <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioners Anthony, Lloyd, and Newell <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Mrs. Adams, Mrs. Murphy <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Corinne Centeno, Manager Linda Griffith <br /> The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was called to order <br /> by Chairperson Leo Walsh at 3:00pm at the Senior Center Annex, 711 Nevada <br /> Street, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> Commissioner M. Walsh asked that in the August minutes, the vote tally for Item <br /> 7 under Veterans Memorial Senior Center Committee Report be checked. Upon <br /> further research, it was determined that the vote tally was correctly noted in the <br /> August minutes. The minutes of the August meeting were approved as mailed. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> Chairperson Walsh noted that a copy of the Sequoia Healthcare District <br /> Community Grants program had been forwarded to each Commissioner. <br /> Chairperson Walsh commented that he had received no response to letters sent <br /> to Senators Boxer, Feinstein or Representative Eshoo regarding Medicare <br /> changes. He urged Commissioners to call their offices to express their concern. <br /> ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br /> Mrs. Adams and Mrs. Murphy were introduced to the group. They both attended <br /> the Commission sponsored luncheon. <br /> ITEM 1 — UPDATES AND REPORTS <br /> -Kaiser Hospital Meeting — In Home Support Services <br /> Chairperson Walsh reported on the meeting with Kaiser personnel noting that <br /> three of the eight people that accompanied him to the meeting were Kaiser <br /> members. During the 90 minute meeting they were provided with a detailed <br /> description of what Kaiser provides to its members in their homes. Chairperson <br /> Walsh asked Manager Griffith to provide the Commission with information on <br /> where gaps still existed in this area. Commissioner M. Walsh spoke regarding <br /> her concerns with in-home care and skilled nursing care and the fact that the <br /> "cost issue" is the responsibility of both hospital and patient. Manager Griffith <br /> distributed copies outlining gaps in Medicare coverage produced by HICAP of <br />
