SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY, MAY 14, 1998 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Walsh (arrived 3:15pm), <br /> Commissioners Harrison, Lloyd, Moran, <br /> Newell (arrived 3:23pm), and Walsh <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: None <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Corinne Centeno <br /> The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was called to order by <br /> Vice Chairperson Betty Moran at 3:10pm at the Senior Center Annex, 711 <br /> Nevada Street, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> M/S M.Walsh/Harrison: To approve the Commission minutes of March 12, 1998. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br /> Vice Chairperson Moran reported on the Building Relationships and <br /> Sustainability Conference she attended this morning pertaining to youth <br /> programs. She attended representing Redwood City 2000 and the Senior <br /> Affairs Commission. The meeting was held at the SamTrans Building in San <br /> Carlos. Topics included mentor programs, tutoring, etc. Chairperson Walsh <br /> arrived at 3:15pm and assumed the chairperson role. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> There was no correspondence. <br /> ITEM 1 — CHAIRPERSON'S REPORT <br /> -Report back on Catholic Health Care West Senior Advisory Meeting <br /> Chairperson Walsh is our representative and spoke about the guest speaker <br /> who was the manager of Catholic Health Care West's outsource contracts. <br /> He spoke of the benefits of continuing to meet with providers. <br /> -Report on Kaiser Presentation at Veterans Memorial Senior Center <br /> Chairperson Walsh spoke about the Kaiser meeting which was attended by <br /> more than 24 people. There was a heavy discussion on how to get through <br /> the Kaiser health system but the audience did not ask about quality of care. <br /> The Commission has met with representatives of the two hospitals and <br /> Chairperson Walsh asked the Commissioners for input on whether we should <br /> try to have a meeting at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center (VMSC) to get <br /> input from seniors to expand the amount of input received, and to gauge <br /> interest of the senior community on health care. <br />
