SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY, JUNE 11, 1998 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Walsh, Commissioners Harrison, <br /> Moran, and Walsh <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioners Lloyd and Newell <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Dr. Roger Willey <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Corinne Centeno, Secretary Denise Monroe <br /> The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was called to order by <br /> Chairperson Leo Walsh at 3:25pm at the Fair Oaks Senior Center, 2600 <br /> Middlefield Road, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> M/S M.Walsh/Harrison: To approve the Commission minutes of May 14, 1998. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br /> Superintendent Centeno said Commissioner Newell notified her he would be <br /> sending a letter resigning his position on the commission. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> There was no correspondence. <br /> ITEM 1 — CHAIRPERSON'S REPORT <br /> -Report on California Senior Legislature and Campaign Finance Reform <br /> Chairperson Walsh spoke about recent legislation to change campaign <br /> finance reform. Superintendent Centeno reported that there is no legislation <br /> on a city level nor are there any limits on campaign contributions for Council <br /> elections. It was noted that State limits on campaign contributions have <br /> changed recently but it is not clear what the changes are at this point. <br /> M/S Moran/M.Walsh: That the Commission be in favor of campaign finance <br /> reform at the level of U. S. Senators and Representatives. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> The Commissioners requested a letter be sent to Representative Eshoo, <br /> Assemblyman Lempert, Senator Sher, Senators Boxer and Feinstein, our City <br /> Council, and the California Senior Legislature informing them of the <br /> Commission's support of campaign finance reform. <br /> -Presidential Study Groups on Saving Social Security <br /> The Commissioners decided they will continue to monitor this topic. <br />
