Commissioner M.
Walsh stated that she was advised by a social worker at San Mateo County
General that everything is reverting back to the way Medicare worked
originally; Medicare will cover 80% of your bill; your supplemental will cover
the 20%. If you can get your doctor to agree to accept what Medicare will
pay, then it is fine. If your doctor will not take the assignment from
Medicate, then the patient will be liable for the difference which could be in
the thousands of dollars. Commissioner Moran read a letter she received
from her doctor which recommended that she make no changes on her
health care coverage until she heard from her doctor.
The following audience members spoke on this topic:
Mary Ray of 3666 Farm Hill Boulevard spoke about her husband's need for
cardiac rehabilitation and being denied coverage by Aetna. She noted
coverage for this service was obtained but with many phone calls to Sequoia
and her doctor.
