SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 1999 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Moran, Commissioners Borgens, <br /> Harrison, Nobles (arrived at 9:33am), L.Walsh <br /> and M.Walsh <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioner Carpe <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: None <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Corinne Centeno, Administrative Assistant <br /> Denise Monroe <br /> The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was called to order by <br /> Chairperson Betty Moran at 9:30am at the Redwood Room of the Veterans <br /> Memorial Senior Center, 1455 Madison Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> M/S M.Walsh/Borgens: To approve the January minutes as mailed. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> ITEM 1 — ACTION ON DATE, TIME AND PLACE OF MONTHLY <br /> COMMISSION MEETINGS <br /> M/S Borgens/L.Walsh: To change the meeting time of the Commission <br /> meetings to 1:00pm on the second Thursday of each month. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> The Commissioners discussed the suggestion to have special meetings once <br /> at year at Casa de Redwood and Woodside Terrace and to resume meeting at <br /> the Fair Oaks Senior Center. Commissioner L. Walsh questioned going to <br /> Fair Oaks because of lack of interest and attendance at previous meetings <br /> held there. Commissioner Nobles felt there are two senior centers in <br /> Redwood City and the Commission should be involved with both; she is also <br /> on the TEWCI Board and there are matters coming up in the future that the <br /> Commission needs to be informed about. Commissioner Borgens felt that <br /> TEWCI should be given the opportunity to bring issues to the Commission by <br /> having some meetings at the Fair Oaks Senior Center. She felt it would be <br /> helpful to have someone "in-house" like Commissioner Nobles to encourage <br /> TEWCI and Fair Oaks Seniors to attend the meetings. Commissioner M. <br /> Walsh suggested having Commissioners take turns going to monthly <br /> meetings of the various senior groups who meet at the Veterans Memorial <br /> Senior Center in order to encourage their members to attend at our <br /> Commission meetings. Chairperson Moran suggested inviting representatives <br /> from each senior group to attend our meetings. <br /> Commissioner M.Walsh stated that many seniors who live at Woodside <br /> Terrace and Casa de Redwood do not have transportation and are unable to <br /> get out to attend our meetings. She said she spoke with the new manager <br /> of Woodside Terrace who was interested in hosting a future Commission <br /> meeting.
