SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY, AUGUST 12, 1999 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Moran, Commissioners Borgens, <br /> Carpe, Harrison, L.Walsh, and M.Walsh <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioner Nobles <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Barbara Halloran, Diana Johnson, Althea Honey, Pamela <br /> Greene, Ethel Walter, Millie Cole, A.J. Kabzinski <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Corinne Centeno, Administrative Assistant <br /> Denise Monroe <br /> The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was called to order by <br /> Chairperson Betty Moran at 1 :03pm at the Woodside Terrace Retirement <br /> Community, 485 Woodside Road, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> M/S M.Walsh/Harrison: To approve the June minutes as mailed. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> Superintendent Centeno spoke regarding the letter from the Target Education <br /> and Welfare Council (TEWCI) to City Manager Ed Everett stating that TEWCI <br /> will be pulling out of the Fair Oaks Senior Center on July 1, 2000. She gave <br /> some history of the facility and its relationship with the City. She noted <br /> there will be a meeting tomorrow with TEWCI board members and staff to <br /> plan the transition. Superintendent Centeno asked the Commissioners for <br /> their input and if any were interested in participating. Chairperson Moran and <br /> Commissioner M. Walsh expressed interest but were unable to attend <br /> tomorrow's meeting. Superintendent Centeno will report at the next <br /> Commission meeting. <br /> Chairperson Moran noted that John Anagnostou has agreed to be our <br /> speaker at the next luncheon to be held on October 21 at the Courthouse <br /> Cafe. Commissioner Harrison will be meeting with Bob Bryant tomorrow to <br /> work out the details <br /> ITEM 1 — INPUT TO COMMISSION FROM WOODSIDE TERRACE <br /> COMMUNITY RESIDENTS <br /> Ginny Hughes spoke on behalf of the residents of Casa de Redwood and <br /> noted four items which are concerns for the seniors in that facility: <br /> 1 . New SamTrans bus service has severely impacted the Casa de Redwood <br /> residents <br /> 2. Residents are unable to cross safety at the intersection of Veterans <br /> Boulevard and Maple Street due to the timing of the signals <br /> 3. Red-Wheels service is not dependable or on time; seniors frequently miss <br /> their doctor's appointments due to its unreliability <br /> 4. There needs to be more affordable, low-income senior housing <br />
