SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY, DECEMBER 9, 1999 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Moran, Commissioners Borgens, <br /> Carpe, Harrison, Nobles, L. Walsh and M. <br /> Walsh <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: None <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Corinne Centeno <br /> The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was called to order by <br /> Chairperson Betty Moran at 1 :00 PM in the Redwood Room of the Veterans <br /> Memorial Senior Center, 1455 Madison Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> M/S J. Borgens/J. Harrison: To approve the October 1999 minutes as <br /> mailed. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> ITEM 1 — BRAINSTORMING SESSION ON IDEAS FOR STRATEGIC <br /> PLANNING COMMITTEE <br /> Thls Item was moved to the end of the agenda. <br /> ITEM 2 - UPDATE ON TARGET EDUCATION AND WELFARE COUNCIL <br /> (TEWCI) INTERVIEWS <br /> Superintendent Centeno gave an oral report on the interviews held with five <br /> agencies that expressed interest in the operation of the Fair Oaks Senior <br /> Center. Casa de Redwood, Catholic Charities, Family Services Agency, <br /> Kainos Home and Training Center, and Poplar RECARE all sent <br /> representatives to an initial interview. The panel was made up of: Maria <br /> Bransford, current TEWCI Executive Director, Bonnie Miller and Carolyn <br /> Nobles from the TEWCI Board of Directors, Linda Griffith, Veterans Memorial <br /> Senior Center Director, Marcia Waldron of the Area Agency on Aging, <br /> Clarence and Mary Juett, Fair Oaks Senior Center participants and <br /> Superintendent Centeno. The panel reached consensus that they would like <br /> to continue discussions with both Catholic Charities and Family Services <br /> Agency. Generally the group felt that a senior center was more in keeping <br /> with the overall mission of these agencies and that they possibly could <br /> coordinate the participation of some of the other applicants in their <br /> programming. <br /> ITEM 3 — WORKPLAN UPDATES <br /> -Economic Development Luncheon <br /> Betty Moran and Jean Harrison gave a report on the October 21St Luncheon <br /> at the Court House Coffee Shop, with John Anagnostau as the speaker. <br /> Twenty-eight persons attended the lunch.
