SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION Minutes of Thursday, January 13, 2000 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Vice Chairperson Harrison, Commissioners Borgens, Nobles, and M. Walsh COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioners Carpe, Moran, L.Walsh GUESTS PRESENT: Judy Buchan, Susanne Donohoe-Bombosch STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Corinne Centeno, Secretary Denise Monroe The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was called to order by Vice Chairperson Jean Harrison at 1 :00pm in Room 20 of the Senior Center Annex, 711 Nevada Street, Redwood City, California. It was reported that Commissioner Carpe had surgery due to a broken hip and is currently at Sequoia Hospital. APPROVAL OF MINUTES M/S M.Walsh/J.Borgens: To approve the minutes of the December 9, 1999 meeting. Motion passed. CORRESPONDENCE There was no correspondence. ITEM 1 — APPROVAL OF LETTER TO CHIEF BOLANOS REQUESTING A MEETING TO GATHER INFORMATION ON ELDER ABUSE IN OUR COMMUNITY Commissioner Nobles reported that she drafted a letter to Chief Carlos Bolanos requesting a meeting with Commission representatives to discuss elder abuse. Commissioners M.Walsh and Nobles will represent the Commission. All the Commissioners reviewed the letter and agreed that it should be sent to Chief Bolanos. ITEM 2 — UPDATE ON TARGET EDUCATION AND WELFARE COUNCIL, FAIR OAKS SENIOR CENTER ISSUES Superintendent Centeno stated that the selection process is a bit behind due to holidays. As the result of a stakeholder meeting, the committee has identified two groups they would like to speak to further about operating the facility. The two groups identified were the Family Service Agency and Catholic Charities, and the committee hopes to meet with each group by the end of January. She noted that TEWCI will be vacating the facility by June 30, 2000.
