She asked if anyone from the audience had
any concerns which they wished to express. One senior mentioned she was
concerned about transportation for seniors to get to the senior centers other
than Rediwheels. The cost of Rediwheels is $3.00 per round trip and
expensive for seniors to use; she also does not find the current SamTrans
buses adequate.
ITEM 1 — UPDATE ON MEETING WITH CHIEF BOLANOS CONCERNING
ELDER ABUSE
Commissioner M.Walsh reported on the meeting she and Commissioner
Nobles attended with Police Chief Bolanos and Captain Switzer concerning
elder abuse. She reported that only three cases of elder abuse were reported
to the Redwood City Police Department in 1999 and she felt this was
probably not an accurate number of elder abuse cases which actually
occurred. There is no way to really identify financial abuse of seniors and
there are no records on this topic.
Commissioner Borgens stated she obtained some information on elder abuse
from AARP's website and shared it with the Commissioners.
