SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY, MAY 11, 2000 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Moran, Commissioners Borgens, <br /> Carpe, Harrison, Nobles, L.Walsh and M. Walsh <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Ethel Walter <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Corinne Centeno, Secretary Denise Monroe <br /> The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was called to order by <br /> Chairperson Betty Moran at 1 :02pm at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center, <br /> 1455 Madison Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> Commissioner L.Walsh asked that the April minutes be amended under Item <br /> 1 (Senior Health Care Issues) to include the following information: "Ethel <br /> Walter said she has been discontinued service three times from doctors and <br /> insurance companies and has since enrolled with Kaiser. She is pleased with <br /> the service she is getting from Kaiser. Madeline Schwartz said she was <br /> cancelled three times by different insurance companies and is currently <br /> looking for a new doctor. She may have to go out of the Redwood City area <br /> for service." <br /> M/S M.Walsh/J.Borgens: To approve the minutes of the April meeting as <br /> amended. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> There was no correspondence. <br /> ITEM 1 — UPDATE ON TARGET EDUCATION AND WELFARE COUNCIL, FAIR <br /> OAKS SENIOR CENTER ISSUES <br /> Superintendent Centeno reported that the transfer of services from the <br /> Family Services Agency (FSA) at the Fair Oaks Senior Center is moving along <br /> smoothly. The Area Agency on Aging has sent the necessary documentation <br /> for the nutrition and transportation programs to Family Services Agency. <br /> Superintendent Centeno stated many things still need to be worked out with <br /> the co-agencies at the facility. She announced there will be a meeting <br /> tomorrow at 12noon at the Fair Oaks Senior Center and Susan Houston from <br /> FSA will be speaking to seniors regarding transportation. A representative <br /> from Rediwheels will also be in attendance. FSA will not be operating the <br /> TEWCI van and there are approximately eight seniors who will need to work <br /> with Rediwheels regarding alternative methods of transportation. <br />
