SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION
MINUTES OF THURSDAY, AUGUST 10, 2000
COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Moran, Commissioners Borgens,
Harrison, L. Walsh, and M. Walsh
COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioner Carpe
GUESTS PRESENT: Melba McCall, Mary Ward, Ethel Walter
STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Corinne Centeno, Secretary Denise Monroe
The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was called to order by
Chairperson Betty Moran at 1:00pm at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center,
1455 Madison Avenue, Redwood City, California.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
M/S M.Walsh/L.Walsh: To approve the July minutes as mailed.
Motion passed.
CORRESPONDENCE
Chairperson Moran received a letter from Mayor Ruskin requesting a
Commission representative to participate on the Downtown Area Plan
Committee. Chairperson Moran volunteered to be our representative.
ITEM 1 - UPDATE ON TARGET EDUCATION AND WELFARE COUNCIL,
FAIR OAKS SENIOR CENTER ISSUES
Superintendent Centeno provided the Commissioners with a copy of Family
Service Agency's first monthly report for the month of July. The report
indicated that Family Services Agency (FSA) is serving an average of 37
meals per day at the Fair Oaks Senior Center. Superintendent Centeno noted
she was pleased that the nutrition site and other regular activities have not
stopped since the changeover of provider. Work still needs to be done to
increase numbers of attendees and to increase offerings. Because FSA is not
operating the Fair Oaks Senior Center van, they are working with Rediwheels
to provide transportation for seniors to the Center. Both City staff and
Family Services Agency need to open discussions on alternative
transportation ideas.
