SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY, JANUARY 11, 2001 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Commissioners Carpe, Grove, Moran, <br /> and M. Walsh <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Chairperson Harrison, Commissioners <br /> Borgens, and L. Walsh <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Vince Truscelli <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Corinne Centeno, Secretary Denise Monroe, <br /> Manager Linda Griffith, Administrative Clerk Kathy Bede <br /> The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was called to order by <br /> Commissioner Betty Moran at 1:05pm in the Redwood Room of the Veterans <br /> Memorial Senior Center, 1455 Madison Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> M/S M. Walsh/Carpe: To approve the December minutes as mailed. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> The Commissioners received the January edition of the Veterans Memorial <br /> Senior Center newsletter. <br /> ITEM 1 — DEVELOP ACTION PLAN FOR 2001 <br /> Manager Griffith explained that she developed a draft action plan for 2001 as <br /> a result of the last Commission meeting and the Commissioners received a <br /> copy in their packets. She stated that she tried to tie the action plan into the <br /> City Council's current priorities and objectives, and asked the Commissioners <br /> for their comments on the draft plan. The Commissioners had the following <br /> comments: <br /> -How does Senior Affairs Commission connect with Housing and Human <br /> Concerns Committee on housing issues and have no overlap in duties <br /> -Spend more time on housing issues and less time on HMOs, Medicare; <br /> Council has done all they can for us on this subject <br /> -Change focus from Council to State or Federal government <br /> -Perform additional research after the census since census information not <br /> available until October 2001 <br /> -Perform needs assessment in Redwood Shores community <br />
