SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY,FEBRUARY 8,2001 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Harrison, Commissioners Borgens, <br /> Carpe, Grove, Moran, L. Walsh and M. Walsh <br /> GUEST PRESENT: Nancy Ratcliffe of Downtown Task Force <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Director Corinne Centeno,Manager Linda Griffith, <br /> Administrative Clerk Kathy Bede <br /> The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was called to order by <br /> Chairperson Jean Harrison at 1:05 pm in the Redwood Room of the Veterans Memorial <br /> Senior Center, 1455 Madison Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> M/S M.Walsh/Grove: To approve the January minutes as mailed. Motion passed. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> Chairperson Harrison thanked Commissioner Moran for her leadership of the past year <br /> and in her absence. <br /> Commissioner L. Walsh provided a copy of his letter inviting Jerry Fuchs to speak at the <br /> next Senior Affairs Commission luncheon. <br /> The following items were taken out of order: <br /> ITEM 5-DOWNTOWN TASK FORCE UPDATE -NANCY RATCLIFFE <br /> Nancy Ratcliffe of the Downtown Task Force defined the goals of the group as follows: <br /> • Establish the downtown district as a friendly environment where a diverse mix of <br /> people live,work,recreate and shop. <br /> • Respect the historic character& architecture and cultural heritage of Redwood City. <br /> • Establish a central downtown public gathering space,which serves as a focal point for <br /> the community. <br /> • Create and define an accessible, safe, attractive and convenient downtown. <br /> • Create an economically viable downtown. <br /> The Downtown Task Force will make recommendations to Council in August 2001 and <br /> is currently seeking input from other Redwood City groups as to what is perceived as <br /> needs for the downtown area. <br />
