SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY, JULY 12, 2001 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Harrison, Commissioners <br /> Borgens, Grove, and L. Walsh <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Nancy Radcliffe, Ethel Walters <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Director Corinne Centeno, Manager Linda Griffith, Secretary <br /> Denise Monroe, Administrative Clerk Kathy Bede, Senior <br /> Services Specialist Marlene Annuzzi <br /> The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was called to order by <br /> Chairperson Jean Harrison at 1:05pm in the Redwood Room of the Veterans <br /> Memorial Senior Center, 1455 Madison Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> M/S L. Walsh/Borgens: To approve the May minutes as mailed. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> -Chairperson Harrison received letters from Congressman Tom Lantos and <br /> Senator Russell Feingold regarding the Commission's letter in support of <br /> campaign finance reform. Copies of the letters will be sent to the <br /> Commissioners. <br /> ITEM 1 - DOWNTOWN TASK FORCE PRESENTATION - NANCY <br /> RADCLIFFE <br /> Nancy Radcliffe of the Downtown Area Plan Task Force explained that this <br /> group has been working since last August to develop a draft plan for the <br /> Planning Commission and City Council which would then be included in the <br /> City's General Plan update. The Task Force's vision is to develop a plan to <br /> revitalize the downtown Redevelopment area located between the El Camino <br /> Real and Veterans Boulevard and Woodside Road and Whipple Avenue. Ms. <br /> Radcliffe provided the Commissioners with copies of the slide presentation <br /> made to Council earlier this month and reviewed the goals and strategies of <br /> the Task Force. The Commissioners discussed the draft plan and gave their <br /> suggestions and some concerns that they felt should be addressed in the <br /> plan. Comments included: the needs for senior housing; concerns about <br /> eminent domain issues for local businesses; having something that would <br /> draw families into the downtown area such as a place for children to play <br />
