SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2001 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Harrison, Commissioners <br /> Borgens, Carpe, Grove, Moran, L. Walsh and M. <br /> Walsh <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Vincent Truscelli, Paul Wirthlin and June Worden <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Manager Linda Griffith, Assistant Recreation Supervisor <br /> Yelena Devyatova, and Administrative Clerk Kathy Bede <br /> The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was called to order by <br /> Chairperson Jean Harrison at 1:00pm in the Goldstar Room of the Veterans <br /> Memorial Senior Center, 1455 Madison Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> M/S Grove/Moran: To approve the July minutes as mailed. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> A memo from Mayor Ruskin to Chairperson Harrison regarding the energy <br /> crisis was distributed to the Commissioners. <br /> ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br /> Commissioner Leo Walsh stated that he would like to have a follow up <br /> meeting with the Mayor regarding the energy issue. <br /> ITEM 1 — SENIOR SURVEY — COMMISSIONER GROVE <br /> Commissioner Grove requested feedback regarding the Senior Commission <br /> questionnaire and the letter to City Council seeking $6,500 in funding for its <br /> data analysis. The Commissioners discussed what age to target as the focus <br /> group for the survey in determining the needs and awareness of the services <br /> available. The issue of transportation challenges around Redwood City was <br /> added to #12 of the questionnaire. It was also decided to add questions as <br /> to the use of e-mail by seniors and what would bring them to the Senior <br /> Center. A letter will be sent to Council with a desired survey start date of <br /> December 1, 2001. Survey would be presented by volunteers at public areas <br /> and by mail to people already contacted by telephone within two to three <br /> week period. <br />
