SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2002 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Harrison, Vice Chairperson <br /> Grove, Commissioners Carpe, Graf, Moran, L. <br /> Walsh and M. Walsh <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Zena Vigileo, Toni Saldou, Danny Sanchez, and William <br /> Shoen <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Recreation Supervisor Yelena Devyatova, Senior Services <br /> Specialist Marlene Annuzzi and Administrative Clerk Kathy <br /> Bede <br /> The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was called to order by <br /> Chairperson Jean Harrison at 1:07pm in the Goldstar Room of the Veterans <br /> Memorial Senior Center, 1455 Madison Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> Alexander Graf was welcomed as the newest Senior Affairs Commissioner. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> M/S Moran/M.Walsh: To approve the June minutes as mailed. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> No correspondence this month. <br /> ORAL COMMUNICATION <br /> Toni Saldou of the Revenue Services Department announced that William <br /> Shoen was coming to address the Commission but was late. She inquired if <br /> he might speak briefly upon his arrival. The Commission agreed. <br /> ITEM 1 — SEQUOIA HOSPITAL DISTRICT <br /> Commissioner L. Walsh reported a successful meeting on September 10, <br /> 2002, with Mr. Frank Gibson, Executive Director of Sequoia Healthcare <br /> District, Chairperson Harrison, Superintendent Beth and Senior Services <br /> Specialist Marlene Annuzzi. The District no longer runs Sequoia Hospital but <br /> does help fund various health programs. The District currently has $41 <br /> million and collects approximately $5 million per year. The District has <br /> granted $16 million in grants to the community since its inception, $13 <br /> million to Sequoia Hospital for capital improvements and $3 million to <br /> nonprofit corporations. If the District is dissolved, the taxing would continue <br />
