Librarian
MINUTES of the meeting of December 4 were approved as submitted ,
CORRESPONDENCE : Various brochures and an invitation to meeting
of the Associated Council of the Arts to be held in
Los Angeles .
AGENDA ITEM 1 - Spring Art Show :
Ars . Poncia introduced Mrs . Paula Beam , who directs arts and
crafts shows throughout the Bay Area . She is the coordinator and
public relations person , sending a newsletter announcing shows
to a mailing list of 500 . She handles the advertising : radio ,
posters , and newspaper , and has a large banner which can be dis-
played in the street . Invitations would be sent to local people .
The show is completely organized , so nothing evolves upon the
Commission other than sponsorship . Mrs . Beam will coordinate
the event with the downtown merchants . She carries a million
dollars of insurance . The weekend of May 7 , 8 , and 9 appears
to be a favorable time for the show .
Mr s . Beam explained how Los Gatos and other cities have handled
a wine tasting in connection with the arts and crafts show .
Glasses can be purchased by the city , etched in any way they
wish , such as "Redwood City Arts & Crafts Show - 1976 " and sold .
They would be sold only to adults and the glasses can then be
taken to the wineries , where wine would be dispensed to the hold -
ers . Funds from sale of the wine glasses go to the sponsoring
group . An entry fee is charged artists , usually 010 plus 10%
commission on sales , which goes to Mrs . Beam .
