CIVIC CULTURAL COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY, JANUARY 3, 2002 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Dale, Commissioners Ball, <br /> Britschgi, Del Carlo, Kushin and Soultanian <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioner Douglas <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: None <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Director Corinne Centeno, Secretary Denise Monroe <br /> The meeting of the Civic Cultural Commission was called to order by <br /> Chairperson Warren Dale at 7:05pm in Room 1 of the Community Activities <br /> Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> M/S Ball/Britschgi: To approve the December minutes as mailed. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> -A variety of newsletters and announcements were received. No action <br /> required. <br /> ITEM 1 — DRAFT CULTURAL ELEMENT DISCUSSION <br /> Director Centeno reviewed the draft Cultural Element with the Commissioners <br /> and asked for their input and suggestions. The following comments were <br /> noted: good data, re-state theme we are trying to emphasize; changing <br /> demographics and priorities in the City; what is the direction we want to <br /> follow; visual arts are important part of the element; include Art Center; <br /> Chairperson Dale read an introduction statement to be included in the draft <br /> element; put appendix at end of document with locations; schools are <br /> challenges; document what the Commission has done; list strengths, <br /> weaknesses and what is needed; update organization list; identify criteria; <br /> who will benefit by our programs; we lack performing arts facilities that are <br /> functional; groups are seeing Redwood City as a haven for cultural events. <br /> Draft element revised to include: <br /> A.) Introduction with mission, purpose, strengths, weaknesses <br /> B.) Define existing conditions <br /> C.) Where the Commission wants to go - taking a prioritized approach <br /> D.) How the Commission is going to get there <br />
