CIVIC CULTURAL COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY, MARCH 7, 2002 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Dale, Commissioners Ball, <br /> Britschgi, Del Carlo, Douglas, Kushin and <br /> Soultanian <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Jeff Filippi, Rosemary Filippi Fischer, Eileen Parker, <br /> Sara Cardona <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Director Corinne Centeno, Superintendent Chris Beth, <br /> Recreation Supervisor Mark Yasuda, Secretary Denise <br /> Monroe <br /> The meeting of the Civic Cultural Commission was called to order by <br /> Chairperson Warren Dale at 7:00pm in Room 1 of the Community Activities <br /> Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> M/S Ball/Kushin: To approve the February minutes as mailed. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> -A variety of newsletters and announcements were received. No action <br /> required. <br /> ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br /> Rosemary Filippi Fischer of the Sequoia Alumni Association spoke about the <br /> Alumni's work with the Sequoia High School Librarian in establishing a state <br /> of the art Native American section in the school's library. She stated the high <br /> school has only one third of the necessary basic reference materials available <br /> in their library. Ms. Filippi-Fischer stated that the Alumni Association is <br /> working to purchase 35-40 books for the Library and she will report back in <br /> approximately 6-12 months upon completion of the project. <br /> Recreation Supervisor Mark Yasuda introduced Eileen Parker and Sara <br /> Cardona of the Teen Advisory Board (TAB) to the Commission. Ms. Parker <br /> and Ms. Cardona announced the TAB will sponsoring "Cultural High", a poetry <br /> slam and art show on Saturday, May 11 from 1:00-3:OOpm at one of the <br /> City's community centers. The event will be celebrating the positive aspects <br /> of the community's culture and will be open to middle and high school <br />
