CIVIC CULTURAL COMMISSION <br /> SPECIAL MEETING <br /> MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 25,1995 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Redington, Commissioners <br /> Distefano, Piulle and Saye <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioners Ball, Filippi, Fischer <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Andy Frisch of Redwood City International <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Sall� Hartman, Recreation <br /> Supervisor Julie Hannon, Secretary Denise Monroe <br /> The special meeting of the Civic Cultural Commission was called to order by <br /> Chairperson Oliver Redington at 12:OOpm in Room 5 of the Community <br /> Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> ITEM 1 -REDWOOD CITY INTERNATIONAL GRANT REQUEST <br /> Andy Frisch explained some of the reasons behind the urgency of this special <br /> meeting of the Civic Cultural Commission to hear the grant request of <br /> Redwood City International and expressed his thanks to the Commission for <br /> meeting at such short notice. He presented a consolidated budget for <br /> Redwood City International which included: a total budget for the <br /> performing arts delegation; a budget detailing all technical expenses for the <br /> performing arts delegation; and a 1995 budget for Redwood City International <br /> which did not include the performing arts delegation budget. <br /> Mr. Frisch explained the Chinese delegation is spending one week in <br /> Redwood City this month and will be presenting two performances; one at <br /> Canada College and the other at Veterans Memorial Senior Center. There <br /> will also be a display of art work at the Redwood City Art Center during the <br /> week they are here. The Commissioners asked questions about the Sister City <br /> program and what level of participation the Port of Redwood City and the <br /> Chamber of Commerce are having in this year's visit. Mr. Frisch said the Port <br /> is hosting a dinner this evening for the delegation. He mentioned although <br /> the Chamber has not provided any monetary support this year, several of <br /> their individual members have made contributions of other things for the <br /> visit. Commissioner Piulle said she felt that the Chamber and other groups <br /> should be involved because the Sister City Program is more focused on trade <br /> and is not just a cultural program. <br /> The Commissioners discussed the interaction they have had with Redwood <br /> City InternaHonal during the past year and the importance of bringing <br /> matters to the Commission on a more timely basi�.
