CIVIC CULTURAL COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY, DECEMBER 5,1996 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Vice Chairperson Filippi, Commissioners <br /> Ball, Britschgi, Distefano, Redington, and Saye <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Chairperson Piulle <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Sara Salsbury <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Corinne Centeno, Secretary Denise <br /> Monroe <br /> The meeting of the Civic Cultural Commission was called to order by Vice <br /> Chairperson Jeff Filippi at 7:05pm in Room 1 of the Community Activities <br /> Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> The November minutes were approved as mailed. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> -The Commissioners received a letter of response from Peninsula Center <br /> Stage regarding having school children observe PCS rehearsals; this matter <br /> will be placed on the January agenda for follow-up. <br /> -The Commissioners received a letter from the San Mateo County Arts <br /> Council regarding the expenditures of the 1996 Music in the Schools program. <br /> ITEM 1-LIBRARY PROGRAMS <br /> Library Supervisor Celia LaRiviere announced the "Great Pasada", a new <br /> Library holiday event to be held on December 18. She mentioned the <br /> Library's self-check out machine is now fixed and available to the public. She <br /> also announced the Library recently received a $225,000 literacy grant. <br /> Supervisor LaRiviere said she has been spending a considerable amount of <br /> her time doing research on starting a non-profit foundation for the Library. <br /> ITEM 2-EL CAMINO YOUTH SYMPHONY GRANT REQUEST <br /> The Commissioners discussed the grant request of El Camino Youth <br /> Symphony with Sara Salsbury. Ms. Salsbury explained that their proposed <br /> matinee performance is designed to be shorter and more family-oriented and <br /> the evening performance will be longer and more formal. <br />
