SPECIAL MEETING OF <br /> CIVIC CULTURAL COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY,APRIL 11,1996 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Piulle, Commissioners <br /> Distefano, Filippi, Fischer, Redington and Saye <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioner Ball <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Peter Weiglin and Normajean Duran of <br /> San Mateo County Arts Council <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Sally Hartman, Supervisor Julie <br /> Hannon, and Secretary Denise Monroe <br /> The special meeting of the Civic Cultural Commission was called to order by <br /> Chairperson Tamara Piulle at 11:40am in Classroom 4 of the Red Morton <br /> Center, 1120 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> ITEM 1 - SAN MATEO COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL <br /> Acting Executive Director Peter Weiglin explained the San Mateo County <br /> Arts Council is making plans for Families Arts Day to be held July 27 at the <br /> Community Activities Building. He said the Arts Council is expanding its <br /> organizational role in the community as well as expanding their staff. He <br /> introduced Normajean Duran, their newly appointed Administrative <br /> Assistant. Mr. Weiglin said the Arts Council is also looking at establishing an <br /> endowment foundation. He mentioned all programs are proceeding as usual <br /> except for the Arts Star Awards which has been delayed. <br /> Mr. Weiglin said they are making plans to hold the Families Arts Day event <br /> and he is in the process of recruiting artists, performers and volunteers for <br /> the event. They have received a grant from Target for $2,500 which was half <br /> of what was received last year. The funding request for the 1997 Families Arts <br /> Day must be submitted to Target by July 1996. P�1r. Weiglin said he is seeking <br /> the help of the two Rotary Clubs in Redwood City and has received a <br /> tentative commitment from one of the groups. He asked who was going to be <br /> the contact from the Cultural Commission for the event and Supervisor <br /> Hannon and Chairperson Piulle will be the Commission's representatives. <br /> Supervisor Hannon asked Mr. Weiglin to contact her to arrange a meeting to <br /> discuss the details of the event. <br /> Commissioner Filippi expressed his concern about maintaining the high <br /> quality of Families Arts Day and the fact that the Peninsula Symphony will be <br /> performing at 3:30pm for the event.
