f CIVIC CULTURAL COMMISSION MINUTES OF THURSDAY, OCTOBER 2, 1997 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Ball, Commissioners Britschgi, Distefano, Piulle, Redington, and Saye COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None GUESTS PRESENT: Dr. Jeff Filippi, Manager Julie Hannon, Elena Mori, Carol McNamara, Library Supervisor Celia LaRiviere, Ruth Waters STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Corinne Centeno The meeting of the Civic Cultural Commission was called to order by Chairperson Virginia Ball at 7:05pm in Room 2 of the Community Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. SPECIAL ORDERS OF THE DAY - Presentation to Dr. Jeff Filippi Chairperson Ball and Commissioner Distefano presented a mounted nameplate to Dr. Filippi and commented on his achievements. Dr. Filippi thanked the Commission members and staff for all their hard work. Dr. Filippi also spoke about his future activities with the McKinley School arts programs. The Commission recessed at 7:15pm for refreshments in honor of Dr. Filippi. The meeting was called back to order at 7:30pm. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Commissioner Piulle noted that on page 4, Item 4, paragraph 3 of the September minutes, the sentence should read, "She expressed her disappointment on the lack of public attendance at the Art Center reception.". The minutes were approved as corrected. CORRESPONDENCE Commissioner Distefano reviewed various newsletters and correspondence received by the Commission including: 1 .) Invitation to San Mateo Historical Society event on October 14 to view the building plans for the Courthouse site. 2.) Thank you note from Kathy Brda of the Optimist Club for entertainment funds for the Climate Best Fest. 3.) Guide to the Arts publication from the Community Information Program of the Peninsula Library System. The Commissioners asked staff to get additional copies of the Guide to the Arts for their use.
