CIVIC CULTURAL COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY, MAY 1, 1997 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Ball, Commissioner <br /> Britschgi, Distefano, Filippi, Piulle, Redington, and Saye <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Barbara Pierce, Lynn Hilferty, Dr. Ron Crates, <br /> Councilman Ira Ruskin, Peter Hughes, and 35 other guests <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Corinne Centeno <br /> The meeting of the Civic Cultural Commission was called to order by <br /> Chairperson Virginia Ball at 7:lOpm in Room 2 of the Community Activities <br /> Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> The following corrections were made to the April minutes: <br /> Under Item 4, it should state "cast in bronze" not bronzed. Under Item 6, it <br /> should state "Commissioner Britschgi requested a copy of the Port budget for <br /> the anniversary event". The minutes of the April meeting were approved as <br /> corrected. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> Commissioner Distefano reviewed a variety of correspondence related to <br /> upcoming cultural events. In addition: <br /> -A letter was received from Kiwanis which noted 12 music performances <br /> have been scheduled for the Farmers Market which opens May 3. <br /> -Commissioner Piulle spoke of an open house at the 1870 Gallery this coming <br /> weekend. <br /> ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br /> -Theresa Garcia invited the Commissioners to attend a Sock Hop at Foresters <br /> Hall sponsored by the Soroptomists on Saturday, May 17. <br /> -Bonnie Miller announced there will be a Cinco de Mayo Festival at Taft <br /> School on Sunday, May 4 which will benefit classroom activities. She <br /> requested $250.00 in support for the event. The funds would help pay for <br /> rental of equipment for the bands. Staff will send Ms. Miller a grant request. <br /> The Commissioners discussed the advisability of funding events after they <br /> have been held. <br />
