CIVIC CULTURAL COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY,jUNE 5, 1997 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Ball, Commissioners <br /> Distefano, Filippi, Redington, and Saye <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioners Britschgi and Piulle <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Lewis Miller, Pete and Paula Uccelli, Derald Blackmore, <br /> Pat Nugent, Ricardo Balderas, Lua Hadar, Danny Broome, Ray Doherty, <br /> and the winners of the 1997 Art Contest and their families <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Corinne Centeno, Manager julie Hannon <br /> The meeting of the Civic Cultural Commission was called to order by <br /> Chairperson Virginia Ball at 7:13pm in the Community Room of the <br /> Main Library, 1044 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, California. <br /> Chairperson Ball opened the program by explaining the Commission's <br /> purpose in this awards evening and encouraging support of education in the <br /> arts for youth. <br /> ITEM 1- SPECIAL ORDERS OF THE DAY-AWARDS PRESENTATION <br /> Chairperson Ball presented Port Commission Chairperson Lewis Miller with <br /> an award honoring the Port Commission for their sponsorship of the <br /> Summer Concert series. <br /> Commissioner Distefano presented an award to Pete and Paula Uccelli for <br /> their contributions to the arts. <br /> Commissioner Filippi explained the Commission also wanted to honor <br /> school personnel who support the arts. Principal Derald Blackmore and <br /> teacher Pat Nugent accepted the award for McKinley School. Commissioner <br /> Redington presented the award to John Gill Principal Ricardo Balderas and <br /> teachers Lua Hadar and Carol Milestone. Commissioner Saye presented the <br /> award to teachers Danny Broome and Ray Doherty and Principal Mario <br /> Chacon from Sequoia High School. <br /> Awards were presented to the following students who were winners in the <br /> 1997 Commission Art Contest: <br /> Kindergarten 1st Place - Mason Hayes-Clifford School <br /> 2nd Place - Michelle Malfabon-Hoover School <br /> First Grade lst Place - Christian Rodriquez-Garfield School <br /> 2nd Place - Armando Arias-Garfield School <br />
