CIVIC CULTURAL COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 1997 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Ball, Commissioners <br /> Britschgi, Distefano, Piulle, Redington, and Saye <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioner Filippi <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Library Director Yvonne Chen <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Corinne Centeno <br /> The meeting of the Civic Cultural Commission was called to order by <br /> Chairperson Virginia Ball at 7:04 pm in Room 2 of the Community Activities <br /> Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> SPECIAL ORDERS OF THE DAY <br /> Staff commented on the letter of resignation received from Commissioner Filippi <br /> noting the City Council would be presenting a plaque to him at a future meeting. <br /> M/S Saye/Redington: To send a letter of acceptance with regret to <br /> Commissioner Filippi and to invite him to a meeting where the <br /> Commission would present a token of their appreciation for his service. <br /> Motion unanimously approved. <br /> The letter will be on Commission letterhead with a copy to the City Council and <br /> City Manager and signed by Chairperson Ball. <br /> M/S Distefano/Saye: To have Commission members contribute funds towards a <br /> gift for Commissioner Filippi; Commissioner Distefano will coordinate the <br /> purchase of the gift. <br /> Members of the Commission discussed their concerns over recent newspaper <br /> articles regarding the status of funding available to the Commission, the need to <br /> support decisions of the group, as well as Commissioner Filippi's contributions to <br /> the Commission. <br /> Motion unanimously approved. <br /> The following items were taken out of order: <br /> ITEM 1 — LIBRARY PROGRAMS <br /> � Library Director Yvonne Chen spoke regarding her 30 year history in the Seattle <br /> Public Library system. She is in the process of ineeting many members of <br />
