CIVIC CULTURAL COMMISSION
Minutes of Thursday, November 5, 1998
COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Vice Chairperson Redington, Commissioners
Britschgi, Dale, DelCarlo, Pierce, Saye
(arrived at 7:30 p.m.), Shenone
COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None
GUESTS PRESENT: Robert Slusser, Loretta Knight, Rosine Bena,
Ruth Waters
STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Corinne Centeno
The regular meeting of the Civic Cultural Commission was called to order by Vice
Chairperson Oliver Redington at 7:07pm in Room 2 of the Community Activities
Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue,
Redwood City, Califomia.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Vice Chairperson Redington noted that while meeting notes were prepared from
the October meeting, there was no quorum and as such no minutes to approve.
He commented that the notes should reflect that his visit to the Port was
scheduled for Wednesday, rather than Tuesday, October 28'.
CORRESPONDENCE
The Superintendent read a letter from Pat Valentine of the City Manager's Office,
thanking the Commission for supporting the new matting and framing of the
Ledesma watercolors in City Hall. She reviewed various pieces of
correspondence including the announcement of grants available from
Philanthropic Ventures and notices of upcoming cultural events.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
Ruth Waters addressed the Commission on her desire to create a Visual Arts
Museum in the 1939 portion of the County Courthouse, which will house the
County Historical Museum. She commented that the Oakland Museum is an
example of a combined site and that an agreement for joint site administration
would need to be developed. She responded to questions from Commissioners
Dale and Schenone regarding the interest of the Historical Museum and timing of
the County Offices move from the building. The Commission asked that a
resolution by the Commission supporting the concept of a Visual Arts Museum in
the 1939 portion of the Courthouse be placed on the next agenda for
consideration. Material indicating the San Mateo County Historical Association
