CIVIC CULTURAL COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY, JUNE 4, 1998 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Ball, Commissioners <br /> Britschgi, Distefano, Redington and Saye <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Tamara Piulle, Dana Lomax, Henry Use, Peter Bliznick, <br /> Chris Preimsberger, Mary Hall Ross <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Corinne Centeno <br /> The meeting of the Civic Cultural Commission was called to order by <br /> Chairperson Virginia Ball at 7:02pm in Room 1 of the Community Activities <br /> Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES �� <br /> A <br /> M/S Redington/Distefano: To approve the� minutes as mailed. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br /> Tamara Piulle urged the Commission to appoint a representative to Art Share <br /> which meets monthly on the third Friday of each month at 12noon. The <br /> Commissioners were invited to attend an Art Share sponsored workshop in <br /> October for cultural commissioners. Ms. Piulle asked the Commissioners to <br /> contact herself or Ruth Waters for ideas for the workshop. Staff will check <br /> on the membership of the Commission to Art Share. <br /> The following items were taken out of order: <br /> ITEM 2 — PRESENTATION OF LARGE GRANT REQUESTS <br /> -Kennedy Middle School <br /> The Chairperson announced that Elena Mori of Kennedy Middle School was <br /> not available for the presentation on her request for funds to support a drama <br /> production due to a prior commitment. <br /> -Kollage Community School for the Arts, Poetry in the Schools <br /> Dana Lomax of Kollage School for the Arts spoke regarding the California <br /> Poets in the Schools program at Hoover School. This program consists of <br /> 95% English transition students. Ms. Lomax read several poems written by <br /> the students at Hoover School in this program. They are requesting 53,000 <br /> to finance two poetry classes twice a week for a total of 20 hours per week. <br /> -Kollage School for the Arts, Dance Program <br /> Henry Use spoke for Dance Instructor Rosine Bena and he invited the <br /> commission to a performance of the dance program on June 6 at 7:OOpm at <br /> the Peninsula Ballet Theater at 333 South 6 Street, San Mateo. Mr. Use <br /> read a letter from Rosine Bena stated that dance has been effective in <br />
