CIVIC CULTURAL COMMISSION <br /> Minutes of Thursday, July 2, 1998 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Ball, Commissioners Britschgi, <br /> Distefano, Redington and Saye <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Warren Dale, Georgi LaBerge, Barbara Pierce, Mary <br /> Filippi, Danielle DeCarlo, Pete Hughes, Norm Shapiro, <br /> Jeff Filippi, Dave McClure <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Corinne Centeno, Administrative Assistant <br /> Denise Monroe <br /> The regular meeting of the Civic Cultural Commission was called to order by <br /> Chairperson Virginia Ball at 7:OOpm in Room 5 of the Community Activities <br /> Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> The following corrections were made to the June minutes: <br /> -Under Item 2, Peninsula Center Stage, add "Commissioner Distefano said the <br /> downtown restaurants are doing well even when the Fox is not open." <br /> -Under Item 5, Evaluation of Cultural Events, "Songs of Brian" should read <br /> "Songs of Britain". <br /> M/ S Redington/Distefano: To approve the minutes of the June meeting as <br /> corrected. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> Commissioner Distefano reviewed various newsletters and announcements <br /> received by the Commission. <br /> ITEM 1 — SMALL GRANT REQUESTS <br /> -Music is Instrumental <br /> Jeff Filippi spoke regarding the "Music is Instrumental" request for$999.00. The <br /> program has been mass marketed and has already received $16,000.00 in <br /> donations. 80% of students are currently using school instruments. The goal is <br /> to provide music to all children who want to study. This will also positively impact <br /> music programs at the high school level. Mr. Filippi said he hopes to purchase <br /> 6.5 instruments with the grant funds. Commissioner Britschgi complimented Dr. <br /> Filippi on the project and asked about RESCUE support.
