CIVIC CULTURAL COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY, AUGUST 6, 1998 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Ball, Commissioners Britschgi, <br /> Distefano, Redington, and Saye (arrived <br /> 7:35pm) <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Barbara Pierce, Bill McKenna, June Stone, Claudia <br /> Herzog, Peter Stahl, Jeff Filippi <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Corinne Centeno, Administrative Assistant <br /> Denise Monroe, Library Resource Department Supervisor <br /> Celia LaRiviere <br /> The meeting of the Civic Cultural Commission was called to order by <br /> Chairperson Virginia Ball at 7:05pm in Room 2 of the Community Activities <br /> Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> A correction was made to the July minutes under Item 4. The first sentence <br /> should read: "Commissioner Redington reported on a meeting Commissioner <br /> Saye attended which was called by Community Development Director <br /> Deborah Nelson regarding hanging banners in the downtown area." <br /> M/S Redington/Distefano: To approve the July minutes as corrected. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> Commissioner Distefano reviewed the correspondence received: <br /> -San Mateo County Arts Council newsletter <br /> -A newsletter from the Kiwanis Farmers Market <br /> -Open Studios calendar <br /> -A flyer with dates for Sponsorship and Profits Workshops held by CalFest. <br /> The Commissioners received the annual report from RESCUE and thanked <br /> Barbara Pierce for her well done report. <br /> ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br /> Resource Department Supervisor Celia LaRiviere reviewed the events to be <br /> held at the Library during August. She noted the senior health lecture on <br /> August 19; internet training in English on August 20; and Internet training in <br /> Spanish on Thursdays. She announced the popular Summer Reading Club <br /> has 1 ,489 children signed up and 53� children have already finished the <br /> program. <br />
