CIVIC CULTURAL COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 1998 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Vice Chairperson Redington, Commissioners <br /> Britschgi, Dale, DelCarlo, Pierce, Saye (arrived <br /> 8:40pm), and Schenone <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Bill McKenna, June Stone, John Holt, Lettie Distefano <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Corinne Centeno <br /> The meeting of the Civic Cultural Commission was called to order by Vice <br /> Chairperson Oliver Redington at 7:05pm in Room 2 of the Community <br /> Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> Superintendent Corinne Centeno administered the oath of office to incoming <br /> Commissioner Warren Dale. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> M/S Dale/Britschgi: To approve the August minutes as presented. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> Superintendent Centeno reviewed various newsletter and notices of <br /> upcoming events. She read a thank you card from former Chairperson <br /> Virginia Ball. <br /> ITEM 1 — LIBRARY PROGRAMS <br /> Superintendent Centeno reviewed the items sent by Library Supervisor Celia <br /> LaRiviere including a monthly calendar and notices of two upcoming events. <br /> ITEM 2 — REQUEST FOR FUNDS — SMALL GRANTS <br /> -Optimist Club <br /> John Holt spoke about the 5t'' annual Climate Best Fest and generous past <br /> support of the Cultural Commission. The S950.00 grant will support the <br /> musical performances of: <br /> Saturday — Peninsula Players Barber Shop and a salsa band <br /> Sunday — Menlo-Atherton Jazz Band and Family Wolf, a blue grass band <br /> Mr. Holt noted that all funds raised at the Climate Best Fest will go towards <br /> classroom supplies for elementary schools and other projects related to <br /> children. He responded to questions as follows: <br /> -There will be a new promoter for this year's event who will supply a <br /> minimum of 50 vendors in addition to public vendors. The festival will go <br /> from Jefferson to Winslow and will be combined with the Fire/Public Safety <br /> Day. The festival has also helped increase the membership of the club. An <br />
