CIV(C CULTURAL COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, JULY 1, 1999 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Vice Chairperson Britschgi, Commissioners <br /> Dale, Del Carlo, Pierce, Schenone (arrived <br /> 7:16pm), and Saye (arrived 7:35pm) <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Chairperson Redington <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Bill McKenna, June Stone, Robyn Alatorre, Virginia Ball <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Corinne Centeno, Administrative Assistant <br /> Denise Monroe <br /> The meeting of the Civic Cultural Commission was called to order by Vice <br /> Chairperson Barbara Britschgi at 7:02pm in Room 1 of the Community <br /> Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> Superintendent Centeno announced Chairperson Redington had undergone <br /> surgery and would not be at the meeting this evening. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> M/S Pierce/Britschgi: To approve the June minutes as mailed. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> The following correspondence was received: <br /> -An evaluation report from Sequoia Art Group on their 98-99 grant. <br /> -San Mateo County Art Council invitation to participate in their cultural arts <br /> calendar; this request will be forwarded to our grant recipients. <br /> -Art Share invitation to attend "Sound Off III" on September 25 at San <br /> Mateo City Hall from 9:00-12noon; arts groups are invited to present a <br /> display of their successful events. <br /> -A letter from Mount Carmel School thanking the Commission for the <br /> S 100.00 award they received for the highest percentage of entries to the <br /> 1999 Art Contest. <br /> -A letter from resident Deborah Rimmerman in support of funding the grant <br /> to the Redwood City Educational Foundation. <br /> -A letter from Erin Raiser requesting the Commission's support of a proposed <br /> neighborhood improvement project at City Center Plaza; she is interested in <br /> installing a fountain in the plaza area. This matter will be placed on the <br /> August Commission agenda for further action. <br /> -Newsletters from the San Mateo County Arts Council and the Veterans <br /> Memorial Senior Center. <br /> ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br /> Robyn Alatorre of Northstar Academy wanted to provide further information <br /> about their large grant request noting that Northstar is a magnet school with <br /> students from all Redwood City schools. She said Northstar has received <br /> support from the Peninsula Community Foundation and Redwood City 2000. <br />
