CtVtC GULTURAL COMlVItSStON <br /> MIiVUTES OF THURSDAY, DECEMBER 2;-1999 <br /> COMf111tSStO1VERS PRESENT: Chairperson Red � <br /> _ � .. <br /> ington, Corximissioners <br /> Britschgi, Del Carlo, and Saye <br /> COMMISStONERS ABSENT: Commissioners Dale, Schenone � <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Community Development Director Deborah Nelson, Paula <br /> Uccelli, Pete Uccelli, Andrew Frisch <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Corinne Centeno, Secretary Denise <br /> Monroe <br /> The meeting of the Civic Cultural Commission was called to order by <br /> Chairperson Oliver Redington at 7:18pm in Room 1 of the Community <br /> Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF NtINUTES <br /> M/S Det Carlo/Britschgi: To approve the November minutes as mailed. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> CORRESPONDEI�CE <br /> Superintendent Centeno reviewed the following correspondence received: <br /> -A letter from Peninsula Center Stage which will be discussed under Item 3. <br /> -A letter from the San Mateo County Historical Museum thanking the <br /> Commission foc its grant to fund the "Gold Fever" exhibit and an evaluation <br /> of the event and copies of promotional materials. <br /> -Peninsufa Community Foundation cultural arts grant deadline of December <br /> 20. <br /> -Peninsula Symphony concert on December 12 at Canada College. <br /> -An invitation to attend "Millennium Boogie" event at John Gill School on <br /> December 15. <br /> -Newsletters from Sequoia Alumni Association, Fun After Fifty, San Mateo <br /> County Arts Council, and Veterans Memoriat Senior Center. <br /> ITEM 1 — DISCUSStON ON LOCA7'tON OF PUBLtC ART tN CiTY HALL <br /> Chairperson Redington explained that the Pubfic Art Sub-Committee <br /> consisting of he and Commissioner Britschgi met with Paula Uccelli and Andy <br /> Frisch of Redwood City International at City Hall to look at potential sites for <br /> relocation of the jade ship. He noted that Community Development Director <br /> Deborah Nelson was interested in speaking to the Commission regarding the <br /> location of public art in City. <br /> Director Nelson reported that she became responsible for the interiors during <br /> the City Hall construction process. She noted that it was the intention of the <br /> original City Hall Planning Committee that the responsibility for public art <br /> would be given to the Cultural Commission upon completion of the facility. <br /> She agreed that there is a need to augment the art gallery upstairs at City <br />
