CIVIC CULTURAL GOMMISSlON <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY, MAY 6, 1999 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESElVT: Chairperson Redington, Commissioners Dale, <br /> DelCarlo, and Saye <br /> COMMiSSiONERS ABSENT: Commissioners Britschgi, Pierce, Schenone <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Manuel Santamaria, Eddie Rosenstiel <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Corinne Centeno, Library Supervisor Celia <br /> LaRivere, Administrative Assistant Denise Monroe <br /> The meeting of the Civic Cultural Commission was called to order by <br /> Chairperson Oliver Redington at 7:20pm in Room 1 of the Community <br /> Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MiNUTES <br /> M/S Qe! Carlo/Date: To approve the April minutes as mailed. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> Secretary Monroe reviewed several pieces of correspondence and <br /> newsletters from the following: Veterans Memorial Senior Center, Sequaia <br /> Art Group, Bedford Gallery, Kiwanis Farmers Market Almanac, Golden Gate <br /> Radio Orchestra. A flyer was also received for a "Town Meeting on the <br /> Arts" held by Congressman Tom Lantos an May 22 at the Arts Council of <br /> San Mateo County at 2:OOpm. <br /> iTEM 1 — LIBRARY PROGRAMS <br /> The Commissioners were provided a copy of the Library events calendar for <br /> the month of May. Supervisor LaRivere announced the opening of the virtual <br /> library at Sandpiper Community Center on May 15. She noted that on May <br /> 12 at 7:30pm, Richard Joncas will speak on the re-building af the Stanford <br /> Museum. The Raging Librarians will present "Cinderella: A tragicomedy" on <br /> May 19 at 7:OOpm. <br /> Commissioner Dale suggested that in order to better utilize Library Supervisor <br /> LaRivere's time, that she have the option of attending our Commission <br /> meetings and requested that she continue to provide the Commission with <br /> the monthly Library events calendar. Supervisor LaRivere discussed her <br /> feelings on the topic and felt that she could circle specific items on the <br /> calendar for the Commission's interest and would attend certain meetings to <br /> speak on special upcoming Library events. She felt there are better ways to <br /> communicate and that having the option of attending would be helpful. <br /> Chairperson Redington stated that Supervisor LaRivere was always welcome <br /> at our meetings, that her presentations were valuable to the Commission, <br /> and that he would let her make the decision to attend the meetings. <br />
