f <br /> CIVlC CULTURAL COMMISSION <br /> MfNUl'ES OF THURSDAY, AUGUST 5, 1999 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Redington, Commissioners <br /> Britschgi, Commissioners Del Carlo, Pierce, and <br /> Saye <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioners Dale and Schenone <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Pete Hughes, Erin Raiser, Dr. Norman Shapiro <br /> STAFF PRESE�I�T: Superintendent Corinne Centeno, Administrative Assistant <br /> Denise Monroe <br /> The meeting of the Civic Cultural Commission was called to order by <br /> Chairperson Oliver Redington at 7:02pm in Room 1 of the Community <br /> Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MlNUTES <br /> �li/S PierceJDel Carfo: To approve the July minutes as mailed. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> CORRESPONDE�ICE <br /> The following correspondence was received: <br /> -A letter and hand-drawn pictures from 4t'' grade students at Hawes School <br /> thanking the Commission for sponsoring the dance program. <br /> -A letter from the San Mateo County Historical Museum thanking the <br /> Commission for its FY99-00 grant. <br /> -A notice advertising the public art program for the City of San Mateo. <br /> -Newsletters from the San Mateo County Arts Council, Veterans Memorial <br /> Senior Center, and Sequoia Alumni Association <br /> -A touring directory from the California Arts Council <br /> A letter from Erin Raiser was received requesting the Commission's support <br /> of placing two fountains at City Center Plaza. Ms. Raiser explained the <br /> Housing and Human Concerns Cammittee granted Raiser Resources 550,000 <br /> towards this project. The project has been reviewed by the Architectural <br /> Advisory Committee and it was suggested that an endowment ftand be <br /> started to provide for fountain maintenance. Ms. Raiser stated that Debbi <br /> Jones-Thomas suggested a committee be set up for the project and has <br /> agreed to oversee the committee. Ms. Raiser also noted that the project is <br /> just going out to bid and because the fountains are pre-fab, the project is <br /> expected to be completed in 6 to 8 weeks. <br /> M/S Pierce/Saye: To give the Commission's support of the fountain p{ans at <br /> City Center Pfaza. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> Commissioner Saye offered to help Ms. Raiser plan a fundraising event for <br /> the fountain project. <br />
